Howard's Views

THE ATHEIST

"There is no God," the Atheist said,

"If once there lived, then now God's dead,

Not you, your children or your wife,

Will ever live an after-life."

He preached to all, this Atheist,

“God, Immortal, does not exist.”

He taught, “Earth’s only solution,

Is to study. . . evolution!”

He traveled far and wide this guide

Who preached this form of suicide,

“When you exhale your last breath

There’s nothing beyond, only death.”

“Your destiny from time of birth

Dust and ashes, return to earth

You’ll find no immortality,

And no soul finds eternity.”

One day clouds gathered as he spoke,

He’d drawn a crowd of common folk,

His words were lost in wind and rain,

He raised his voice but ‘twas in vain.

He faced the storm, “God strike me dead,”

As  lightning flashed about his head,

“I am the King of Earth and Sky,

Immortal God?  Thee I defy.”

Again lightning split ‘round his head

He laughed, once more dared God strike him dead!

He raised his arms, in defiance;

Loud thunder crashed, then just silence.

For there now was a deadly twist,

For one who was the Atheist,

Upon the ground his ashes spread,

While smoking hairs now crowned his head.

The wrath of God upon that day

Turned living flesh to ash and clay

He did not believe in God, ‘tis true,

But now he had paid God his due!
